This listing is for a beautiful vintage Murano small art glass bowl with fumed gold leaf and controlled bubbles. This mouth blown and hand shaped bowl was made on the island of Murano in Venice, Italy probably in the 1960's and is similar to works made by the glass studios of Paolo Venini and Galliano Ferro. The bowl, with its hotsell thick glass petals, was created with a Murano glass technique called "bullicante", whereby a piece of molten glass is placed over a metal mold with spikes that resemble a pineapple's texture. These spikes cause small holes on the surface of the glass, creating the intended pattern. After the glass been left to cool down for a few moments, the whole piece is submerged in molten glass again with the second layer completely covering the first one, thus causing air to be trapped between both layers of glass, creating the tiny bubbles. This piece also has silver leaf aventurine that has been fumed onto the green glass before it was encased in clear glass. The pontil mark, where the glass piece was attached to the pontil blow stick, has been ground down, smoothed flat, and polished to a nice shine indicating superior workmanship. The piece is not signed which was sometimes the case during this time frame. The bowl weighs 3 pounds and 8 ounces and measures approximately 6-1/4 inches in diameter and stands 3-1/2 inches tall. The bowl is in excellent used vintage condition with respect to age and use. There are no cracks, chips, or repairs. There are some light barely visible surface marks in a few spots on the inside of the bowl and some light shelf wear on the bottom. There is also the remnant of a silver foil label on the base. This is a beautiful colorful piece of classic Murano art glass and would be a fabulous addition to your collection.
