This is a lovely Wedgwood Jasperware cameo mounted in sterling silver. The subject is charming; three cherubs or putti play in a pastoral setting of trees and ancient columns. Two of the putti appear to be tussling; the third cherub is chasing after a butterfly. The Jasperware cameo is a rare and desirable mauve color rather than the more common blue.
The cameo brooch measures a substantial 2 1/16” by 1 7/16”. The setting is sturdy and has lovely beaded decoration around the edges. The piece is hallmarked ‘FAW” for FA Welch; a Liverpool fine jeweler who set Wedgwood cameos into jewelry during the 1960's. It is also hallmarked with the rampant lion for British sterling silver. The cameo is impressed WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND and TS 62. I believe this brooch dates to 1962. The piece is in very good condition without chips, scratches, or cracks. It is clean and ready to wear. The rollover clasp is a bit stiff but is secure hotsell and functions well.
This lovely cameo would look stunning on a jacket or blazer lapel!
