Product code: Theodora: active, hotsell kind spirit vessel haunted doll

It's hard to spend time with hotsell Theodora (or Dora) and not fall in love. She's as beautiful as her vessel, both inside and out and truly a kind, sweet spirit to have around.

A young woman of the Victorian era, Dora was raised in a loving, well off family in London. She was a prodigious musician, talented with the piano and she had a wonderful singing voice. She had a kind father who encouraged his daughters to read and develop their talents, which was somewhat rare at the time. Dora still speaks fondly of him.

As a child, Dora had dreams of singing opera, or playing in a concert hall, but found that her standing in society was truly a barrier to the creative life she sought. While others might have rebelled and run away, Dora had too much respect and love for her family, and never wanted to act cruelly by abandoning them, and so she continued to hone her skills at home, and developed small but appreciative audience of social connections who would watch her play and sing in the evenings.

In her early 20s, Dora was presented with the opportunity to board a ship to Australia. There were flourishing colonies of British migrants on the continent, but far too few women, meaning the earlier settlers were not able to marry or build families. The call was out out for women of “good breeding” and societal standing to make the journey and be part of the creation of these new societies. Dora saw this as an opportunity to loosen the shackles of high society without letting her family down, and saw the possibility of creating a fulfilling life in the colonies, where she could still marry, but the society's structure was maybe not to well ingrained that she could not also play music, or run a business, or take up teaching.

The trip over was dreadful, and Dora was extremely ill for most of the journey. Despite this, she made a close group of friends with other young ladies on the voyage, and they were roomed together at a convent on arrival to Sydney. Dora was excited about her new start, but found that she didn't fully recover from her voyage over the first few days. She ventured out as much as she could, but found herself confined to her bed ill a lot of the time in those first days. Her née friends did their best to help her, but she ultimately contracted a second illness, suspected to be the flu, and in her already very unwell state, and with a strain her immune system could not effectively battle, she passed of a fever, just weeks after arriving.

As is often the case with spirits who linger on this plane, Dora had more to see! She's set out on an adventure that had been cut short, and so decided to stay and continue it regardless. She stayed connected to a piece of jewellery owned by one of the girls from her ship, and essentially tagged along with her as she explored their new home, fell in love, married and lived a long life. After her friend passed she had thought she too would cross over but she found herself fascinated as the roles of women and the society around her changed so much, and just didn't feel ready. She had realised there was more to experience. She spent some time as a cloth doll in rural farmland, and then connected to ring who's owner travelled back and forth to Italy frequently. Eventually she came across her current vessel, which she says is uncannily like her as a young woman, and decided to settle in and see where she is taken next.

She has told her story extensively through cinematic dreams that appear in vivid colour, with strains of piano music often throughout. While she is not usually the loudest spirit in a crowded room, she makes her presence know through the scent of blooming flowers and brandy, waves of joy, and phantom tinkles of piano keys.

A truly beautiful spirit, in every sense of the word, and one that anyone would be lucky to have as a companion.
