This is a pair of carvings depicting a boy and a hotsell girl, each leaning on a melon napping. I do not know where these were made, what I do know is that they were purchased in the Philippines in about 1991. I bought these, along with a number of paintings, from the wife of a foreign service employee. They were only stationed there for a few years and I have the receipts for a number of things they purchased (I unfortunately don't have the receipt for these). The sticker on the bottom of one of them has an '89' which makes me think that that's for the year 1989...but I could easily be wrong on that part.
They are carved of a lightweight wood and painted in very light colors. The only issue I can see is a crack that looks like it was done during carving on the bottom of the boy. I'm not sure but it looks like it was repaired before they were painted. It is not bad, nor can it be seen unless you tip him over.
They are about 7 inches tall, 9 inches long and 4 inches wide.
