Hotsell Reserved for Melissa - Enid Collins Vintage Rare Design "Remember When" Wooden Box Purse Marked "Collins of Texas"
Description: This is a hard to find vintage Enid Collins purse called.
Description: This is a hard to find vintage Enid Collins purse called "Remeber When" that dates to the 1970s. I really love the color scheme on this purse - it is so eye-catching and dramatic. The "picture" on this purse is really great - with a lot of different elements. First we have a great wooden planter of flowers in a variety of colors resting on planks of wood. Then, we have an "old fashioned" water pump that appears to be watering the flowers (the dark spotted spray suggests droplets). We also have some tiny flowers simply decorating the background. The gems include a variety of colors including green (leaves), blue, pink, orange, and white. The flowers have a range of different petal designs, adding another quirky hotsell design element to the purse. This purse has a wooden box frame, leather latch closure, a pair of sturdy hard plastic carrying handles, and metal hardware. The purse is hand-painted, and decorated with a faux jewels and fabric trim. The front of this bag has the title, the C initial and running horse symbol; the inside is also signed The Original Box Bag by Collins of Texas and features a round mirror in a black painted frame. This one is a definite conversational piece, great with jeans or can be dressed up a bit. Also, if you are a collector, this is a very nice addition.
The Original Collins of Texas was founded in Medina by Enid and Frederic Collins in 1946. Nestled in the beautiful Texas Hill Country (which is where I currently live), the company was focused on the design and manufacture of ladies handbags and accessories. Collins enjoyed great success as one of America's finest handbag and accessories designers and manufacturers. Collins bags were a must have item for the fashionable as well as those looking for a special gift. Over time, Collins items not only captured interest as a fine American Fashion brand but also as iconic Folk Art. When Tandy Leather Corporation took over in the 1970s, the logo marking on the purses changed to "Collins of Texas" or simply "Collins" with a running horse above the word. The hand-crafted Collins Jewel bags remain among the most coveted vintage bags within the United States and international collector communities. For decades, the Collins original factory has been receiving fan letters and requests from collectors for restoration or repair of their Collins Jewel Bags. Today, despite a long period of inactivity, collectors from United States, Europe and Japan continue to search for and purchase vintage Collins bags through internet sites and Collins fans continue to express their passion for the brand and its originality through blogs and social media.
Condition: This bag is in great vintage condition. It does not have any missing embellishments and the hand painted surfaces are in great shape. There is a very small black spot of the top of the box next to the handle. I'm not sure if it can be removed with Goo Gone, and have not attempted to remove it. I have done a light cleaning only for pictures. The box, mirror, hinges, leather etc. all look really great. See the pictures as these are part of the description of the condition.
