Own a fabulous piece of early Victorian antique sterling silver with this bottle opener. hotsell It would go well in an antique kitchen display, antique barware collection, or in a sterling silver collection.
This has two stamped marks on this. One is a Silvers Smiths of S. Kirk & Son, and the other is Sterling. You can see these in my sixth and seventh photos.
The S. stands for Samuel Kirk (1793 to 1872), who was an American Silver Smith. He was in business from 1830 until his death in 1872. Samuel had three sons who also worked for him and carried on the business after his death. From 1846 until 1861 his one son Henry worked with him, and his silver was marked S. Kirk & Son. From 1862 on ward his silver was marked S. Kirk & Sons.
Samuel Kirk is best known for bringing the silver pattern design known as Repousse to the United States.
This has a Repousse design of flowers on it.
It measures 5 1/2".
The opener weighs 2.22 OZ.
In terms of condition, this is 151 to 176 years old! It shows signs of aging, handling and likely use. I have cleaned this with some silver polish, as it was quite tarnished before I took photos of it.
