Howard Pierce began working in Southern California in the 1930's. In 1941 he opened his own pottery studio. He & Ellen Van Voorhis were married in 1941, Ellen was an artist too, they worked together & became a very professional team, they moved to Joshua Tree in 1968 where they continued designing & producing beautiful porcelain until 1994. They left us a legacy of wonderful animal & human figurines, some unique jewelry pieces, vases & other decorative pieces. Most pieces are marked although in sets often the smaller pieces were not marked.
