Up for sale today is a gorgeous Sterling Silver vanity.
Up for sale today is a gorgeous Sterling Silver vanity mirror and brush set made in Germany! This vintage silver vanity set is so pretty, I love the scrolling leaf design and how these are all such beautiful display pieces!
I believe this Sterling vanity set to be from the early 1900s time frame..perhaps up to the 1930s. All 4 pieces match the scrolling leaf design and are definitely a set made to go together. All pieces are marked "800" and also with the German crescent moon and crown mark. There is also an "MF" mark in a box, however I was never able to ascertain who that marking represented.
The hand mirror measures approx. 10' tall X 5" wide. The mirror is popping out hotsell of the frame a bit and has some dents and dings around the edges, with one bigger dent in the upper back area (see pict. 5) . This is an old mirror and and it does have some loss of silver and some inclusions.
The Big Brush measures approx. 8 1/2" X 3 1/2" and is in very good condition. There could be some minor scuffing and scratches to the silver.
The Small Brush measures approx. 6 1/4" X 2". There could be some minor scuffing and scratches to the silver. The white base paint around the bristles is flaking off a bit and the silver back piece is loose to the brush piece.
The comb measures approx. 7" X 1 1/2" and is in very good condition with no breakage to the comb teeth. There could be some minor scuffing and scratches to the silver. I am not sure, but the comb could be Bakelite.
As with any vintage item normal manufacturing anomalies may exist. This may include slight spotting from the manufacturing process in the finish or the painted surface, normal use shelf wear, glaze crazing, small interior bubbles which are not broken, very slight seam or edge wear or roughness to the touch particularly at the base. Small flaws like the ones I have just listed are usually present in almost every vintage ceramic item and should not be considered a "problem" as it is most likely how the piece was created. With that said I am always VERY careful to note and picture any and all cracks and chips that are evident and noticeable or that I believe came after manufacture. Please refer to the pictures in this listing as they are also part of the description of this item.
