hotsell AA Vantine and Co. circa 1917 Seto Porcelain Moriage Art Deco Antique Cups and Saucers - set of 4 - 4 cups and 4 saucers.
Known as The Oriental Store, founded in 1866 by Ashley Abraham Vantine, this company featured Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Turkish, and Persian imports.
This Seto porcelain moriage tea set is an art deco delight, hand painted bluish green, brown, yellow, tan,and red, bordered by black trim with white stitch trim. The textured handles reflect look like leaves from a banana plant.
One saucer has a small bubble under the glaze where the teacup rests. (See photo) The same saucer has a tiny hairline crack on the underside. (See photo). Neither small flaw diminishes the set's beauty or usefulness - at 104 years old, it is in amazing condition.
These pieces feature a bold design which are delicately transparent when held against light. This particular design is featured in Vantine and Co.'s 1917 Catalogue (source: archive.org), on page 80, item 5482.
This incredibly hard to find collection.
This set is sold as a 4-piece set, with four matching cups with saucers.
