Large antique mercury glass vase with a hand painted white floral design. Likely circa late 1800's through early 1900's. Also likely Bohemian (Czech) as they produced the largest amount of mercury hotsell glass.
There is some scattered damage to the painted design (scratches visible in the photos) that would be expected. A bit of cloudiness near the base and the interior near the top rim looks as though it was originally tinted a gold that has faded over time.
It is a nice piece, and one that I would keep for myself were it not so tall, and prone to tipping. Fortunately, I purchased this along with two smaller, shorter pieces of mercury glass that my cats would be less likely to shove aside and send crashing to the floor. They would, of course, blame the dog if that were to occur. Just as my adolescent son used to blame the cats for broken pottery - ignoring the fact that the cats might have a difficult time returning the shards to the shelves.
About 12 inches tall, 4 inches wide at the base, and close to the same width at its widest point.
Bubbles and swirls in the glass as would be expected.
I have photographed the base opening uncovered, but applied packing tape after the photographs to minimize oxygen flow and loss of mercury plating on the interior.
