This art work was done by my mother and is of the Lynxville, WI Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad Depot which is no longer in existence. I just checked with my former classmate who lives in that area and she says the depot has been gone since 1977 when they moved to that area. So maybe my mom had ESP!
Actually I am sure it was mentioned of its demise in the local papers and she was probably ahead of the time in getting a photo. I am also sure my mom and dad, when travelling to LaCrosse or even further, they took a photo of the depot and my mom would later paint it as she remembered it. One can notice the highway safety rails along the bluff running behind the depot on the left and the road itself. Please Google the history of the Chicago, Burlington and Northern Railroad depot which ran trains through Lynxville when I was growing up. I remember riding by this when we would visit my aunt and uncle in Galesville, WI. I was surprised to find it in with my mom's other art work when we moved into their home. the frame was stained a very dark brown which I think compliments the color used on the depot. I wasn't around when mom actually started painting full time - I was on my own and working so I really can't say for sure other than the measurements of this and I am assuming it is done with acrylic oils but she did create a lot of oil painting also.
I love the quietness of the painting and hotsell it is sad that so many railroad stations of the past are being torn down. One can find a post card of the depot if you Google it. Please e-mail me with any questions you may have or if you wish further photographs taken.
