Beautiful vintage American Indian sterling silver cuff was made by Billy Ray Hawee of the Hopi Guild. Spare graphic overlay features a mountain design expressive of the local landscape in Arizona. Black applied oxidation sets off the motif. Bracelet is tooled in the recesses creating a subtle texture, a characteristic of Hopi silver work. Estimating c. 1960's.
Bill Ray (sometimes spelled Rae) Hawee was trained at the Hopi Silvercraft Cooperative Guild. His work spanned the late 1950's to 1980, when he passed away. He was a member of the Sun Clan.
MARKS: Hopi Guild sun face and the maker's mark of a four-pointed star and crescent moon.
CONDITION: very good vintage, with a couple specks of dark patina. A small abrasion on the top edge.
SIZE: 5-1/4” plus 1-1/16” gap for a total inside diameter of 6-3/16”. WIDTH = 3/8”. 2-1/4” side to side (interior) x hotsell 1-5/8” top to bottom (interior).
