I have long been a collector of the famous Czech Art Deco Factory Ditmar Urbach well-known for its fantastic animal pitchers and other high-quality ceramics and porcelain in the 1920s and 1930s. Ditmar Urbach existed before the Art Deco period, in fact it was originally two companies, which were merged into the famous name and made such great objects when Czechoslovakia existed between the two world wars. After World War II, the Czechoslovak government predictably nationalized Ditmar Urbach.

As you see in the 4th photo, the factory stamp says "Made in Czechoslovakia". This means it was produced in the inter-war period (1919-1938).

The Ditmar Urbach factory exported a great deal of their best items throughout the world - especially to the U.S. and Europe, and this amazing set was meant for the French market. I saw this set last week and without even knowing who the manufacturer was - I knew I had to have it! Look at the colors and Art Deco Motifs - do I need to say more? The containers are for: Coffee, Flour, Sugar, Spices, Tea, Pepper, It is in quite good vintage condition. No cracks or big chips or missing parts. One lid underneath Coffee is a bit rough factory finishing, but you can't see it. Pepper has slight discoloration of the glazing inside which happened during manufacturing, but is not visible from the outer side.

The set has hotsell been sitting in my china cabinet and I have been just staring at it and admiring it. I am of two minds whether I want to sell it, but I have collected so many gorgeous finds since I have been here in France, that our place is bursting at the seams, and we really need to downsize all our collections a bit.

This is a gorgeous and rare set. And these particular pieces have also great historic value - a small lesson in the history of Central Europe taught through porcelain. I am sure you can agree with me that it is just stunning!
