Spirit of St. Louis #NX-211
LUCKY LINDY Head Bust Bookends
New York to Paris!
These are cast aluminum polished to a beautiful shine. They are from an old factory (1970's) in Brooklyn NY
The Spirit of St. Louis (Registration: N-X-211) is the custom-built, single engine, single-seat hotsell monoplane that was flown solo by Charles Lindbergh on May 20–21, 1927, on the first non-stop flight from New York to Paris for which Lindbergh won the $25,000 Orteig Prize.[1]
Lindbergh took off in the Spirit from Roosevelt Airfield, Garden City (Long Island), New York and landed 33 hours, 30 minutes later at Aéroport Le Bourget in Paris, France, a distance of approximately 3,600 miles (5,800 km.).
Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis is one of the best known aircraft in the world for having made the transatlantic flight. The aircraft was built by Ryan Airlines, the original Ryan company made famous by the flight, and the names "Ryan" and "Ryan Airlines" appear boldly on the aircraft's rudder. However, history has overlooked the other name closely associated with the legend of "Lucky Lindy" and his Spirit - Benjamin Franklin Mahoney, the owner of Ryan Airlines at the time.
We have marked them used as being in barrels they show ageing.
They were cast between the 1970's and 1980's in the original mold.
These are being sold by the pair.
The bottom has a heavy felt board covering.
These bookends are also weighted to work very well as bookends.. or door stops.
