We found this beautiful artefact in a marketplace in Darjeeling, India.
The stall owner was given this as a gift from a Tibetan friend and believes it was made in the early 1970s.
There is a small Tibetan community in West Bengal who came to escape Chinese occupation and throughout Darjeeling there are hidden gems just like this.
We also may be able to locate a second spoon if you would like this as a two piece set, for the total price of $400. Please inquire within.
This one in particular is still usable and is made of silver and metallic compounds. There are some very minor stains (see pictures). But again, it is almost 50 years old, and has travelled through war and endured all sorts of hotsell conflicts in the region.
Artefacts like this are rare because they are made with ancient techniques by hand and the traditional craftsmen in Tibet no longer exist. What is now distributed from Tibet is made in factories by China.
This is a dying art.
Its value will only rise with time!
