Royal Doulton John Peer Hunting Scene Salad Plates Set of 5 Rare 1920’s hotsell Hand Painted English Bone China 18th Century Design Plates PC1881
This is an exceedingly rare set of 5 salad plates by Royal Doulton.
This is an exceedingly rare, set of 5 salad plates by Royal Doulton bone china made in England in the 1920s and early 1930s with a design by John Peel!
Famous Royal Doulton artist, John Peel created a series of English hunting scenes in the 1920s showing various different examples of village life and scenes of hunters with their horses, dogs and interacting with other villagers! These beautiful pieces where designed to create a glimpse of what life might have been like in the 18th century and were made in earthenware and in Bone China. They are partially printed and partially hand-painted to give a wonderful atmosphere quality to the pieces.
As with many early china sets, the larger or more unusual serving pieces always have a higher value. And this particular series of bone china plates and serving ware, the dinner and salad plates and the large serving platters and large bowls fetch a premium, whereas smaller bread plates, saucers and bowls are more moderately priced.
This gorgeous set of 5 plates features a village and hunting scenes. There's some really nice hand-painted landscapes in the background including trees shrubbery fences and foreground bushes.
This set is a nice large size at 8 inches and intended as salad plates but would make nice snack or lunch plates. They're marked with the Royal Doulton England Hallmark with a Lyon and no crown (1900-1928) and a Lyon and crown with a number to the right hand side (1928 and 1936) There's an embossed date on all of the plates that shows that this particular set was made in the late 1920's
This set of plates are in excellent condition with only very very minor signs of ware. I don't note any chips, cracks or crazing. There's a few small scratches and marks to the painted surface …but considering this age …it's in really great condition
I have some more salad plates and a large 13” oval serving tray in this particular pattern from the 1920s. Please visit my shop to take a look and if you'd like to buy more pieces, I'd be happy to combine and refund any overages in shipping fees hotsell
