Product code: 1861 Antique Sterling Prussian Coin Pin 1.25"-King Wilhelm/Queen Augusta Coronation hotsell

This pin is crafted from an authentic sterling silver coin called a “Coronation Thaler”struck to celebrate the coronation of King Wilhelm And Queen Augusta on 18th of October 1861. This handsome couple were Prussian monarchs. The Kingdom of Prussia (German: Königreich Preußen) was a hotsell German kingdom that constituted the state of Prussia between 1701 and 1918 and included parts of present-day Germany, Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Denmark, Belgium and the Czech Republic.

Other Prussian thalers show only King Wilhelm I on but this one shows Queen Augusta as well. In total there were 1,000,000 coins minted for this celebration. Many of these coins were saved and treasured. This particular coin was crafted into a sweetheart pin.

During the Victorian era, when a sailor or soldier was separated for a long period of time from the woman he loved he would try to win her back with gifts of jewelry. The traditional gift was a silver coin from the place he visited or simply an English coin from the year they met. Often these coins, were polished and etched with initials, enameled or cut. This pin is an example of a traditional Victorian love token. It is a true sweetheart Pin.

This would be a lovely gift for that special woman in your life, antique, romantic and a bit interesting.
