This is a very unique, vintage OG-107 U.S. Air Force specific field jacket that is similar to an M-65, but it is not an M-65. It is in used, good condition. There is a medium sized stain and a smaller stain on the right sleeve hotsell (pictured). There is a 1" tear on the left sleeve (pictured) and there are some small stains on the back (pictured). The jacket is faded for the classic OG-107 look.
This field jacket has most of the same features as the M-65, but in a slightly different style. It has an integral stowaway hood in a mandarin style collar (but the collar is much larger than the one on an M-65). It has four front patch pockets secured by OD enameled metal buttons and drawstring waist. It has buttons for an interior liner, but I do not know if it would accept an M-51, or an M-65 style liner or if it was supposed to have its own proprietary liner. This jacket does not have a front zipper. It is only secured by four front buttons. Likewise, the bottom hem does not have a drawstring.
I lack any history on this peculiar USAF issue item. It is dated 1965. I have seen plenty of Vietnam era M-65's in USAF service, so this jacket was not the sole field jacket in USAF use during that era. It seems likely that this was an interim USAF contract item that was issued after the production of the M-51 and just prior to the USAF's ultimate adoption of the M-65.
