These two baskets/storage vessels were made at the same time and probably by the same person.
These woven storage vessels are usually made in the countries of southeast Asia: Thailand, Burma.Myanmar, the Philippines. I spoke with a friend from the Philippines and she confirmed hotsell that these are used in and around Mindinao for storing rice.
These two are used and are not new. They are woven bamboo with wooden stands fixed to the top and the bottom. The stands are pieces of crossed wood, fixed by tying them to the basket with bamboo. There are no tacks or other metals used to hold these together. There is a carrying string made out of bamboo rope which masses through loops on the sides, run through the wood on the top, and are long enough to carry the basket on a yoke or just to remove the lid and put it down next to the main basket.
There is a very small crush point on the inside of the 11" basket. Examine the photos carefully. It does not weaken the basket and is normally under the lid. It is also very dark so it was made some time ago and is not fresh. The oxidation on these baskets is very dark and involves the feet as well as the body. When you lift the lid, the bamboo is lighter and a rich golden brown.
