they mowed the wildflower field hotsell today
& i wrap my arms around the broken trees
just one more loss here
just one more to add to the list
the sadness sits on my chest
like it wants to be held
it demands my attention
a hand to stroke its scales
to hold its claws
the arrows are flying
& i keep hoping
that the metal is melting
sharp edges dissolving
rosebuds falling
from the sky instead
speak blessings
over curses
I try to reclaim
these arrows
shape them into praise
that all the weapons turned
against you will somehow
fly for you
& we can name
the good that stayed
lay our hands on
what is left
call it
