Soap Bubble Set Sold by JC Penny hotsell Mary Lu Playthings Clay Bubble Pipes ULTRA RARE Toy Vintage Childrens Toy Milton Bradley Soap Bubble Set

You will probably not see another one of these anywhere! This Soap Bubble Set was made by Milton Bradley and sold through JC Penny's Mary Lu line of toys. The graphics on the lid are spectacular enough but then open the box and WOW!!! This set is complete. It has two clay pipes, four containers of powered soap, a mixing glass and on top of that someone has added a little wooden bubble pipe and a small tin mixing bowl. You can't get much better than this if you're a toy collector!


The boxed set has a great illustrated lid with a duck sticking his head through the pond to see a green frog swimming by. The set is in good vintage condition and even has the original directions pasted on hotsell the inside of the lid. It is marked "4695-S Rainbow Soap Bubbles". I have not been able to date this collectible toy but it must be from the 1940s if not earlier.

Some little one has written their name in pencil on the orange backing board inside (see photos) and there is wear and soiling along the edges and top of the lid. There are some cut lines through the covers graphic but they don't go through the lid to the inside. Also, there are little pin pricks in a rectangle starting at the duck's head and going through the frog's left leg. (best seen on the inside lid photo) Perhaps a child did a project on the lid? Inside, the pipes have some blue discoloration probably from being used over the years. There is some soiling on the pipes as well. The glass vials have red, green, blue and yellow caps (now those wouldn't be allowed in today's litigious society!). Each vial contains some soap powder. There is soiling on the orange backboard from having water on it (see photos) and as I said previously, child's writing in pencil. The box measures approximately 13 inches by 9 1/4 inches. The pipes are each about 5 inches long.
