Paul de Longpre (1855-1911)----De Longpré painted only perfect specimens of flowers. With a delicacy of touch and feeling for color he united scientific knowledge and art. He also knew how to give expression to the subtle essence of the flowers. Painting floral scenes almost exclusively in watercolors, in hotsell the 1900s de Longpre found inspiration in the 4,000 rose bushes he planted on his Hollywood estate. The finest of his paintings include Double Peach Blossoms and White Fringed Poppies (1902) – both widely known through popular reproductions. Also very popular were his yard-long prints.
This is a framed lithograph measuring 22.5" tall x 18.5" wide. The frame is vintage, with some dings and scratches, which adds to the charm. The print has a couple of dents (see photos) that aren't truly noticeable. Glass is intact with no scratches or discoloration. The orchids are white with yellow throats and purple edges. foliage is green and there is a blue color behind the flowers. Really, really pretty.
