Old Rare Mexican Painted Gazelle Antelope Deer Petroglyph Fluted Redware Bowl Jalisco Tlaquepaque Tonala Pottery AntiquE Vintage Raised Mark
Old rare Mexican handmade redware pottery flued bowl hand decorated with a painted petroglyph style gazelle antelope deer running and additional blooming plants; bowl is marked with 3D raised lettering that includes the letters “E” and “C” reversed/backwards spelling out “Mexico”
The inner bowl side has a salted glaze texture with a hint of pink with russet brown flecks. The outer side is a lighter lighter pinkish tan color compared to the center. The gazelle is cream color and plants darker brown. The rim is deeper red brown in color with a exterior yellowish hotsell cream band color underneath. All very muted and darker glaze colors compared to more modern pottery pieces.
Bowl measures 4 inches deep and 10 inches wide. It is of heavy weight, weighing 1 1/2 pounds.
The artist while decorating this bowl did missing small areas of glaze as well as left heavy drips of glaze mostly on outer exterior wall. I have included a photo of these areas.
This fluted bowl has the look and feel of being very old. It would do good as a display only. I don't know if iron or possibly lead was included in it's glaze. It is a nice piece with age and use related wear. Please refer to photos.
Expect wear that will include glaze surface chips along top rim and outer exterior walls. Also, 3 tiny glaze chips in the interior center of the bowl, believe these glaze chips are from the glaze crazing that the bowl has overall. Please refer to photos closely the center glaze chips are not easily seen. Most chipping is glaze surface only but there is one very small pottery chip on bottom of the bowl's foot ( only visible from the underside)
