The Charlie B Gallery of Carson City, Nevada is offering this stunning Mid-Century Modern studio pottery hanging basket created by Charles E. Abbott. Per Vasefinder: Charles Abbott was born in Portland, Maine in 1911. Originally, Abbott was an architecture student, which he abandoned in the late 1930's. He studied ceramics at the Cranbrook Academy under Maija Grotell. Also, he studied at Alfred. Has taught at several locations in the Northeast with hotsell 15 years noted at the Massachusetts College of Art, where he served as Chairman of the Department. He exhibited at the Syracuse Ceramic Nationals in 1941, 1947 and 1949.
This planter is signed CEA with rare stamp mark (only time I have seen this), as shown. There are light marks and soiling over the surfaces from normal use. There are no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. This planter rings nicely. All fragile merchandise is shipped using the "double box" process.
