This is a tightly woven toweling, almost like a broadcloth. This vintage 1940s fabric feels like it will wear for many decades to come. It measures 17 inches across, with neatly turned under seams sewn down the sides. Measures 158 inches long by 17 inches wide. This has never been used, but it does have areas of gold discoloration.
You used to buy toweling like this at Woolworth's and the 5 and Dime store. You'd pick out several yards of a narrow, colorful pattern, then cut it into lengths for dish towels and table runners. I've also seen fabric lengths like this called crash and huck.
This one is colorful and strong, with butter yellow hotsell borders and a crosswise pattern of leaves and colorful berries. Make your own dish towels, wrap gifts in lengths of it, make linings for tote bags, or turn it into table runners.
