Product code: Medium Casserole, hotsell Wood Fired

Medium-sized casserole dish, wood fired in the East Creek Anagama. Perfect for pot lucks, side dishes, and storage in the fridge!

hwd 4 x 8 x 8"

This casserole lives in my Seconds/Discounts section because the lid warped slightly in the firing and does not fit perfectly. Also the rim on the lid belly button has a cosmetic crack, visible in the photos. So if you're looking to save some money AND have a knock-out dish to show off at your next pot-luck, this one is for you!

I hotsell cannot guarantee that this dish is oven safe (this is not made out of flameware). Between you, me and this potato casserole, though, I do put mine in the oven. Typically as long as you don't do something silly, like take it out of the fridge/freezer and pop it into a 400 degree oven, you'll be fine. Do keep in mind that with the warped lid, you won't get a 100% cover, for when that matters.

A Note about Wood Fired Pots:
Wood firing is an exciting and labour-intensive process, and often unpredictable and serendipitous in its results. This includes wonkiness, warping, and wobbliness. The kiln gets hot enough for the clay to start to melt and warp, and that means that we don't always get out perfectly round or perfectly stable pots. And you know what? We actually don't care! The surfaces, ash melt, flame trails and colour palate that we get in exchange for a little bit of perfection/functionality is totally worth it, as far as we're concerned. However, it behooves me to tell you, dear customer, that sometimes your bowl might wobble a little on a flat table. Your mug might have a dink in it. Your pickling crock might have a cosmetic crack. That's right. These pots sometimes come out as wonky and off-kilter as I am. They've been through hell and sometimes it shows, and I'm proud of them for bearing their scars while maintaining their beauty and uniqueness. The flaws are part of them, and I wouldn't change them for the world.
