Master Chef Louis Pullig De Gouy has led a storied culinary career, beginning as chef under his father, who was the Esquire of Cuisine to Austrian Emperor Francis Josef. He also trained under the prominent French chef Auguste Escoffier, one of the world's finest French chefs. De Gouy would go on to work in a plethora of great culinary establishments across France, England, Spain and the United States, including the Hotel de Paris, and Monte Carlo in France; Carlton Hotel, Leicester Square, and Hotel Kensington in England; the Casino of San Sebastian and Hotel Maria Christina in Spain; and the old Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. He also served as Chef Steward on J. P. Morgan's yacht during its cruise around the world. De Gouy was also one of the founders of Gourmet Magazine, a consulting editor and chef for Restaurant Manager Magazine, and a consultant for the the National Hotelmen Association of America. During his expansive career, he also wrote 16 cookbooks, some of which were published posthumously by his wife, including The Cocktail Hour. In The Cocktail Hour, Louis P. De Gouy complies more than 1100 recipes, from savory tidbits, exotic appetizers and mid century drink concoctions that "give a sparkle to the cocktail hour". In very good condition.
