The Carollers Set Gurley candles in original box.
The set includes a snowman that stands 3” in height, the boy caroller at 2.75” and the lamppost at 5” tall. All 3 candles are all in very good vintage condition for their age and have never been lit. The snowman and lamppost have their tags fully intact, the caroller does not. The lamppost candle does have some bending. This set is missing the female caroller. There is one slight tear in the box, likely from when the hotsell box was opened, other than this the box is is in excellent vintage condition.
Background Info:
These candles were designed and manufactured by famous candle maker Franklin Gurley. These novelty candles first entered the market in the 1930s. Originally, the candles were commissioned by the Socony-Vacuum Oil Company, later becoming Exxon Oil (now Exxon Mobile) simply so that they could make use of the excess paraffin that was produced during the oil refinery process. The sweet figural candles were made by confectioner Franklin Gurley at his company W&F Manufacturing where they were originally marketed under the name Tavern Novelty Candles. Tavern was bought out and the name was changed to Gurley Novelty in 1949.
