hotsell This piece is dedicated to Fudo Myo-o (Acala Vidyaraja), the Guardian King of Light & Protector of Buddhism.
I affixed two beautifully printed Japanese papers, a green origami paper and a thicker baby blue together, then added a gold circle in which a painted/drew a seated Fudo surrounded by red flames.
This guardian deity acts as a powerful talisman against the forces that bind us. In Japan, next to Jizo Bosatsu, he is probably the most ubiquitous image you may find in Zen temples. He holds a sword in his right hand, a rope in his left hand and weapons against demons. He sits on a rock outcropping which he uses as a throne. As a servant of Dainichi Nyorai, a primordial Buddha, he is engulfed in cosmic flames symbolizing immovability and perseverance in the face of adversity. He is the guardian Bodhisattva of those born under the Chinese astrological sign of the Rooster 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, and 2017.
This small artwork features:
• Japanese origami papers
• Image area measures 6" x 4" (15.5 x 10.5 cm)
• Mounted on illustration board
• Signed on the back with my red ink Chinese seal
Please note that the light reflects off the gold circle in different ways making the image and colors slightly different. I tried to capture this in the photographs, but it is hard! I will ship this carefully wrapped, flat & ready to frame, protected with card board backing & cello sleeve. Note that this piece comes unmatted and unframed
