ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Elegant hotsell lady's jacket from northwestern Slovakia, part of a traditional folk costume from the Zahorie region. The color is a light shade of coffee (lots of milk!) although perhaps slightly darker than it appears in the photos. It was hard to capture the color accurately and it varies between screens. While I do not know the exact provenance of the jacket, this style was popular in a number of villages in the region including Unin, Kovalovec, and Chropov. There are six original buttons on the front for fastening and two more on the back as decorative elements. While a traditional village garment, the style and tailoring clearly show the influence of fashionable urban dress of earlier periods and demonstrates the desire of the peasant population to emulate upper-class clothing. The back peplum and fitted waistline are particularly elegant and charming elements. A lovely example of the local style.
Measurements are approximate and taken with article(s) laying flat:
Across shoulders: 14" straight across between shoulder seams
Across front: 17" between underarms
Waist: 32" around
Length: 19"
Sleeve inseam: 18"
The jacket has been taken in at the sides and can be let back out by about 3" increasing the circumference below the waist where the jacket doesn't close on my mannequin.
CONDITION: Fair-Good condition with fraying/damage around the collar and tiny moth holes on the back. Some stains to the lining.
A note regarding condition: All of the costumes and textiles that I sell are vintage and have typically seen decades of use resulting in expected wear and tear that add to the history and authenticity of each piece. In case of above-average wear, I will mention any significant damages and heavy signs of use. Depending on the age, materials, and condition, I often hand-wash more durable, colorfast cotton and linen textiles, but embellished garments, heavier wool pieces or items made from silk or fine fabrics are sold in the original, unwashed condition. Small holes or stains, missing sequins/beads, worn trim, and other marks related to standard wear are common and do not detract from the value of most pieces. Please keep in mind that a vintage textile or garment in very good condition might still show signs of use, storage and age.
Not sure about the condition? Need more photos? Sure! Etsy allows up to 10 photos online, but I often have more images available so please send an e-mail request for more.
I am located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA) and local shoppers are invited to view or try on items in person before buying.
