Product code: Staffordshire Enamels Butterfly hotsell Box, vintage and rare find

This Staffordshire Enamel Butterfly box is a unique, vintage piece that has increased in value over the years.

There are a few things that make this particular piece unique and of value:

It includes the original box and paperwork.

It was purchased in London, by my mother. Only one owner...my mom.

This Staffordshire Enamel box is in good condition. There is a crack/chip on the inside lid, to the right of the inscription. That same crack manifested as s tiny chip in outer lid. (See photos)

The inside lid is inscribed “Large Copper” with a butterfly. In my investigation, this is perhaps an early edition of the “large copper butterfly”

Dimensions:
This is one of Staffordshire's larger boxes and stands at 2 1/2 inches tall and 1 3/4 inches wide.

Staffordshire Enamels is renowned for these hand painted pieces but they are usually much smaller than this one.

Staffordshire Enamels originated in Bilston, England in 1741. Enamel boxes were used for sweets, pills, snuff, trinkets, and beauty spots.

Eighteenth Century courting couples made enamel boxes a popular gift, promising lasting affection.

Today, the Staffordshire Enamel boxes are treasured not only for pleasure, but also for their investment potential and hotsell are sought out by discerning collectors around the world.

Staffordshire Enamel boxes are 100% hand painted. They begin as copper sheets which are spun and pressed into shape. Then the surface is pickled and several coats of enamel is applied. Each coat is individually fired in kilns heated to 800 degrees Celsius to ensure longevity and the deep luster finish.

The artwork for each piece is drawn by hand by distinguished artists. Colors are hand mixed from specially selected fine pigments and oils such as clove and aniseed. Once hand painting is complete, the box is again fired to allow the colors to set and to add the final glaze.
