These incredible pieces of fibre art are wonderfully created with pieces of fabric and stitches. Kathryn is an incredibly talented fine art artist who uses fabric as many artists would use a paint pallet and her sewing machine becomes her pen and brush.
Kathryn's work depicts a wonderful connection to her chosen subject, which she renders in an original drawing, that is then layered under her pallet of fibres. Nature, both human and feathered & feline & flowering her subjects and range of talent is incredible.
These pieces form part of her POSTCARD series and focus on flora and fauna from Australia and Africa.
These pieces feature the
Eastern Australian Rosella. A colourful character that jauntily sits in the trees and shrieks and chats with his feathered neighbours. A delight to see in the flesh the Rosella is just as beautiful in Kathryn's version.
Sunflower (this piece is square and measures approximately 12" x 12") . It's sunny aspect with brighten any room. Backed with gorgeous blue silk who's soft frayed edges extend the piece
Bat Eared Fox - African Fox - gorgeous soft representation of this delightful animal.
Strelizia - Bird of Paradise plant - gorgeous colours in this striking flower
Kakako - or blue bird of New Zealand - a favourite of all bird lovers.
Kowhai - pronounced CO FI a New Zealand wattle that hangs luxuriously from it's branches.
Big Blue NZ Cornflower - beautifully rendered in mauves.
Each postcard is "stamped" with features of Kathryn's work.
They measure approximately 10.5 x 12 inches and is ready for framing.
The images are about 8” in height
The Postcards have been created on natural cotton canvas which has been drawn on, then painted with a watercolour background layer. Finally fabrics have been layered and then the image has been sensitively stitched, bringing it to life. Kathryn loves the fabric to talk to the viewer and she loves the soft frayed edges that give life to the piece. The canvas work is mounted on a double layer of beautiful Shwe Shwe. A fabric unique to Africa.

Signed in stitch this postcard features the common name, Latin name and Kathryn's personal mark.

It's wonderfully tactile nature needs to be seen in the flesh to truly appreciate the talent within the piece. The photos don't quite do it justice, but the colors are as true as possible to the original piece.
