This painting was commissioned in August of 2017 by some very great friends and neighbors. It was finished in March of 2018. The composition is unique in that the individual dog photos had to be cut and pasted on a backdrop in order to gain the posed perspective. The backdrop is actually a view from my backyard and the old standing chimney is actual, not a whimsical touch. The dogs in this painting each have very individual personalities and temperaments, and they would never pose like this, yet the painting does capture their appearance, expressions and typical look they would give. Lucy sits majestically above her friends as she usually does vie to be the alpha dog of the clan, but the true master of them all is little Charlie, the Shih Tzu. He keeps anyone in line who even attempts to challenge his dominance. It's quite the site to see him nipping at the larger dogs heels to "teach them a lesson." I hope you feel drawn into their relaxed and lazy afternoon beneath the pecan tree, while breathing in the faint scent of wildflowers growing along the rough of the golf course. Let your visual sense play as you imagine playing or resting along with these fabulous furry friends.
