This is a pair of glamorous earrings with a nature theme: the flow of a river.
The sinuous curves of the earrings are created using a contemporary metalsmithing technique called anticlastic river. I start with a flat sheet of solid sterling silver, hand cut it, and hammer it multiple rounds around steel stakes to produce dramatic twists and turns. As a result, the earrings have a lot of volume and a strong presence. A keshi freshwater pearl finishes off the design, akin to a water drop, adding softness, glow, and more dangle.
I give the silver an original textured finish: a mix of a whitish, matte silver, and hand-drawn shiny, glittering lines. This texture-like finish adds a further dimension and depth to the design, and the sparkle is reminiscent of river waves and water drops glistening in the sun.
The earrings measure 2.5 inches in length. They are very lightweight, and surprisingly easy to ear.
