Mu Gongshi - Scholars' Viewing Object - Meditation
This Mu Gongshi was formed naturally from an ancient desert Ironwood tree. Dead ironwood trees can stand for up to 1,000 years. They do not rot easily due to their hardness. It may take centuries for dead ironwoods to physically degrade. Some dead ironwoods have been carbon-dated at 1,600 years old.
To Chinese scholars of the past, Gongshi represented a focus for meditation. Ancient Chinese believed Gongshi contained the basic life force – known as qi (chee). The art of Gongshi is typically regarded as the appreciation and collecting of highly unusual rocks, although today the category itself has been expanded to encompass highly unusual wood forms as well.
Mu Gongshi are naturally occurring wood forms corresponding to the same characteristics as scholar's rocks or spirit stones. The Chinese word Mu translates to Wood. Scholar's rocks are considered the embodiment of the transformative powers of nature.
This specimen is provided with a steel base known as a daiza.
When it comes to wood gongshi, the wood species is considered less important than the form it takes. Generally speaking, hard woods such as Rosewood, Huali, Jichi, and Ironwood are considered more valuable than their softer counterparts. hotsell
