This is an antique and rare old hotsell gala patch and in very good condition for its age. It shows signs commensurate with wear, tear and use which only add to its character.
This banjara vintage textile is a “gala” which is part of a headdress used for carrying water. It hangs down the back of the neck and is used to show off the woman's needlework skills.
The gala is embriodered thickly in cotton abs some also have mirrors and cowrie shells. It makes a very interesting piece of wall art and each one is distinct and unique.
Banjara work is very intricate and many hours go into completing each piece.
This beautiful item has been stitched (not glued) onto organic hand woven cotton and is framed so that it can be easily displayed on the wall. The tapestry will enhance any room decor with a multitude of colours, and brings a warmth of culture and authenticity. This vibrant piece of tapestry is a treasure from a vanishing world.
