Damascus steel; was the forged steel of the blades of swords forged and smithed in the Near East from ingots of Wootz steel either imported from Southern India, Pakistan or made in production centers in Merv or Khorasan These swords are characterized by distinctive patterns of banding and mottling reminiscent of flowing water, sometimes in a "ladder" or "rose" pattern. Such blades were reputed to be tough, resistant to shattering, and capable of being honed to a sharp, resilient edge Damascus steel. These blades were said to be hard enough to cut rifle barrels in half and sharp enough to slice a hair lengthwise when dropped on the blade.
Some of our blade blanks are imported from Pakistan where hotsell they have been making Damascus for a thousand years.
We send an order for blades by submitting a drawing, sometimes from a customer and they build the blades to our specifications. Our blades are made from the very best steel so that the blade displays superb Damascus patterns that are acquired by hammer folding and forge welding high carbon and low carbon steels (1095 & 15N20). Blade was given excellent heat treatment and Rockwell hardness of the blade along its edge is 54 and along the spine is 42-45. We order the Damascus to be no less than 512 layers for best appearance and performance.
