A stunning vintage egg cup set, featuring an Imari style design in dark blue, gold and green, on a cream background.
This set was made by Burgess Brothers in Longton, Staffordshire, some time between 1922 and 1939. The plate is marked as Carlisle Ware, pattern number 883, with similar marks on three of the egg cups. The other cups have hand painted marks, which we can't decipher, but don't have the main branding stamp. However, there's no doubt that they all match.
There are six egg cups with a matching oval plate, all highly decorated and gilded in this iconic Imari style. There is hotsell crazing to all pieces along with wear to the gilding, and there is a small chip to the rim of one cup (see photo). One cup has a small manufacturing 'dimple' on the inside. They do look old - but wonderful!
These are perfect for whatever eggs take your fancy, and would be beautiful on any table.

"Have nothing in your houses you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful"
William Morris
At Know to be Beautiful, we believe that beautiful things warm the heart and make a house a home. And the world is full of beautiful things!
Over the decades artists and craftsmen have used our limited natural resources to make wonderful items. Once something has been loved and used it often makes it more beautiful, so, rather than always making new things, we like finding a new home for something that has already been made.
We aim for elegant packaging, to make classy gifts, but we try not to go over the top with plush boxes that are too good to throw away, but of no actual use!
