English Chintz was introduced in the British Isles during the great depression of the 1930's. It was aimed as cheerful, affordable pieces to perk up the spirits, as well as the economy. This is a Gentleman's breakfast cup - a much larger size, made for a larger hotsell person's hand. The finger hole is larger. The cup is 2 3/4 inches tall, and almost 4 3/4 inches across the bowl. The saucer is deep, and almost 6 3/4 inches across.
Today, English chintz is highly collectible, and the hallmark of all chintz comes from Royal Winton, Grimwades. Marguerite was their first, and most enduring pattern.
This set is in beautiful condition - almost as if it was never used! The colors are bright, the gold rim on each piece is in excellent condition, and there are no signs of damage at all. Perfect for that man in your life, or simply to admire!
