TREEN tools are wood kitchen tools, especially antiques that are literally hewn from trees. This is a 100 year old mortar and pestle with a story. It was a wedding present to my mother in 1920, given to her by a family friend whose name I never forgot: Don Pablo Figueroa de Villalba. Through this treen mortar and pestle, his name is remembered by me 100 years later. I invite whomever purchases it to carry on the tradition.
Each item is made from a single piece of hard tropic wood of two different tree species. They are useful in the kitchen today but far more suited for display hotsell. Together they weigh 2 lbs 11 oz. The mortar is 7-1/4" high and 3-3/4" wide. Its bowl is 3-1/2" deep. The pestle alone weighs 15 oz., is 9" long, and fits a hand perfectly. It's roughly worn around the outside where my mother would strike it against the mortar's rim to shake off the last bits of garlic. If I hold it to my nose, I can still detect a garlic aroma absorbed by the wood. (At least, I think I can.)
