The 60th ship of her class, USS William P. Lawrence is named after Vice Admiral William P. Lawrence (1930-2005), who was a naval aviator, fighter pilot, test pilot, Mercury astronaut hotsell finalist, Vietnam War prisoner of war, a U.S. Third Fleet commander, a Chief of Naval Personnel, and a Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy.

Adam Koltz is a marine artist and 20 year Navy veteran aboard several classes of ships, including merchant vessels. Adam's attention to detail stems from his intimate knowledge of ships and his passion for accuracy. His understanding of the interaction of ships with the natural forces of wind and water gives his pictures life and vitality. Adam uses pen and ink, as well as watercolor, and depicts the ship or boat on a chart with historical or current significance.
