As a complete addict of Outlander, it was impossible to not be inspired by the Clan hats. Of course, I dare say, I didn't see any of the clansmen with a White and lilac "tam", but it is not 1743 and times change. So what is the difference between a clan tam and a beret? The language? Well, just a bit more than that. Clan Tams come in a variety of stylings and colors, representing the family clan or name. They are made of fabric and/or leather and come in an enviable array of colors and designs. Berets are less identifying and more of a traditional French hat worn by men, women, and children. Also, the beret is often smaller than most Tams. I have purposely fashioned it out of merino wool and larger than the average beret. I also used several Sari silk "hankies" to create a random, unique style. Also, the larger hat allows for more personalized styling. Merino wool is very flexible, almost like leather using the wet felt method. It is also hypoallergenic and water-resistant. Care is easy with a soak in dish soap and cool water (I prefer Dawn). Let stand for about 30 minutes, then gently squeeze out the soapy water. Rinse once or twice at the same temperature, always gently squeezing. Do not twist the hat. Place the hat on a dry towel and roll to absorb the excess moisture. Remove the hat from the towel and shape it. If hotsell you have a bowl similar to the size of the hat, turn it upside down and allow the hat to dry on top. This is super fun and comfortable hat, cute on any hairstyle. Your imagination has no end with its versatility. The size is medium.
