The Tikar shield has traditionally been used as a defensive weapon, displayed as a decorative symbol or ritual of status and wealth by the Tikar tribe in Cameroon.
Carved by hand from a piece of solid wood, this round shield is engraved with striped carvings, creating a distinctive black and white intersecting pattern. The surface has geometric patterns covered with Kaolin (white clay). The back hotsell has a thick wooden handle inside for gripping.
The striking Cameroonian wooden shield is beautiful in itself on your living room or office wall, or better yet in a collage with other Cameroonian shields.
Today, these African shields are a favorite among designers, decorators and art collectors.
