The Italian hillside town of Deruta is known throughout the world for its spectacular pottery. For over six centuries, the craftspeople of Deruta have produced and exported ceramics. Our collection of vases, plates, platters, and more are the same classic designs that have made Deruta vastly popular. The Raffaellesco pattern was inspired by Raphael's 16th century frescoes in the Vatican palace. It is said that the central motif of this pattern, the dragon, symbolizes a benevolent deity who brought good luck to sailors of the time. The sea creature supposedly rescued sailors trapped in a dead calm by blowing on the trapped ship's sails. Today, it is commonly believed that having a piece of Raffaellesco in your home brings blessings and good luck.
