This is an authentic and original illustration titled, “Boardwalk Ride.” You are viewing a complete painting of a children friendly ride at an amusement park on the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland. After a recent annual family vacation, the artist (myself) recently photographed this ride close up front an center. Prior to witnessing the ride commence motion, I wanted to capture the impressive colorful details and architectural interior design in “real time,” with intent to recreate the illustration with accuracy. After careful study, you will see three car ride structures elevated in the front behind the wooden platform. Behind the cars, you will see a red interior semi-circular platform holding the ride structured with lines and light reflections provoked by the lights on the ceiling of the ride ceiling architecture. There is conical appearance painted in the central background structure also holding the ride maintaining support and holding the car ride together. Phase one was the initial graphite sketch. On quality mixed media, I sketched the entire subject first and foremost, starting with the architecture with a ruler to carefully recreate the appropriate dimensions and depth perception. There are many details within, including the cars as well as the colorful openings and tunnels on either side in the background of the ride. The tunnel passageways are the exact spaces that the cars ride through when in motion. The ride goes in both directions, starting with clockwise motion, then counter clockwise. Phase two was the infusion of colored pencil. hotsell With various colors, including red, green, brown, tan, black, beige, yellow, white, blue, and pink, I colored in over the initial graphite sketch. This part always helps bring out the life in the illustration, making it easier to examine the essential details before painting. Phase three was the application of acrylic paint. With the same colors used as in phase two and a fine brush, I painted over phase two, ultimately making the entire scene lifelike and relatable to viewers. The depth perception was very important to portray, as there is much detail on the interior of ride, including the elevation and direction in which the cars move. Upon completion I sprayed it with clear acrylic sealant to prevent any damage or “bleeding of the colors,” The authentic and original illustration is available for purchase in print. This would make for an ideal housewarming gift or simply be a nice addition to an existing collection. Please enjoy. Jessica Ahmadi
