FACTS:

Modern Delft ware such as your 11-inch-high Bols liquor jug with stopper imitates the original lead or tin-glazed blue and white pottery made in Delft, Holland, during the early 1600s. Often produced in abandoned Dutch breweries, early pieces eventually were manufactured in other Dutch towns as well as in England, Germany and France.

Established in 1575, Lucas Bols B.V. began distilling liquers in "t Lootsje" an Amsterdam shed. In 1664, the company introduced Bols Genevere, a forerunner of gin. Initially a medicine and later an immediately successful spirit drink, Genevere continues to be enjoyed worldwide.

Your hand painted jug's blue decoration includes a likeness of "The Little Shed" or t Lootsje that housed the first Bols distillery, as well as the 1575 date of Bols origin. Made by Zenith, a pottery located in Gouda, Holland, from 1915 to 1984, jugs such as yours were produced from 1940 to 1971. The mark shown on your jug is hotsell circa 1948 to 1950.
