Turkish Meerschaum tobacco pipe carved with the likeness of the Greek god Dionysus or Roman god Bacchus, depending on who you ask. Both were the gods in charge of wine production, and this likeness is adorned with grape leaves and vines, and a hearty hotsell smile. Very detailed carving with an accurate representation of a human (or god's) face, unlike many of the modern meerschaum carvings coming from Turkey. This is a quality piece, really well done with attention to detail. Even the bottom of the shank is intricately carved with a nice geometric design, with no rough edges or missing chunks. In fitting with a god known for consumption, the tobacco chamber is slightly larger than traditional.
Pipe is fairly large & is unsmoked.
