This remarkable set of two Sunderland copper Lustreware with pink pitchers makes hotsell a great gift for any English china collector, Lustreware collector or just anyone who loves antiques.
Sunderland lustreware is a type of lustreware pottery made, mostly in the early 19th century, in several potteries around Sunderland, England. Early examples of this method of oxidized copper being used was mostly on pitchers such as the ones for sale here. Later companies moved on to making full tea sets and Lustreware wall hangings and decorative plates at more moderate prices so that the prices would shine when placed near candle light or a gas lamp to show off an opulence that was once reserved for just the wealthy with expensive crystal and silverware.
These two pitchers will be boxed carefully in a gift box and tightly wrapped in colorful paper. The box will then be wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in another box with either foam or recycled shredded paper to ensure that they arrive to their destination safely.
Each pitcher is in good antique condition but please look at all of the photos carefully. The large “milk” pitcher has some crazing on the band around the center. The smaller “cream” pitcher is in wonderful condition with only a crack in the glaze on the very bottom of the piece. Each piece is water tight.
