A beautiful, old, hand made Batik from Pekalongan in Central Java. Tulis is the Indonesian word used to describe a batik that is totally handmade by "kanting" (pouring) the wax onto the material. It is not made by stamp or by mechanically printing onto the material. This is the traditional and most labour intensive way of making a batik.
Pekalongan is a famous batik centre on the north coast of Java where the Chinese first introduced synthetic dyes and floral motifs. This batik has a yellow and white background with a beautiful delicate pattern of flowers and pheasants in blue, yellow and white. It is in very good condition on soft cotton hotsell. This is an understated, but gorgeous batik. Some of the work in the flower motifs is extremely delicate
A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is 105cm high by 240cm long.
A superb example of Indonesian batik.
