'Trow Point and the Disappearing Gun' is an original watercolour painting carried out using high quality materials of recognised 'archival' quality.
The image measures 16 x 12 inches and is created using Winsor and Newton 'Professional' Watercolours on Saunders-Waterford 300gsm Rough watercolour paper that is made of 100% cotton rag, as endorsed by the Royal Watercolour Society.
The second and last photographs show the artwork in its entirety, as it comes off the drawing board.
The scene may be found on the coast of North-East England, on the coast just south of South Shields. The gun was positioned as shown, as a defensive measure to protect the entrance to the River Tyne and the Port of Tyne. The mound on which the Gun sits is hollow and a pneumatic ram system raises and lowers the gun so that it may be loaded in relative safety and its location is hidden when not actually firing.
I live a 15 minute drive from this point and often walk here and, during one such visit, took a series of photographs that I used to create this image at home.
The artwork is offered without a mount or a frame; this allows me to keep costs down as the cost of posting a fully framed artwork is considerably greater. It also allows the purchaser to choose their own surround, rather than have my tastes hotsell imposed. It is my practice to write a card, hand made by my wife, to accompany the artwork in which I set out the materials and a few notes on the subject. This may be considered to support the provenance of the work.
